(Blogger’s note: Yesterday (3rd March) I went to a talk titled “Dharma as a guiding light to Modern Ethics, Science & Management” held at HKU.  The speaker, President of Asian University of Thailand, gave a lively speech covering a wide range of topics, both Buddhist and non-Buddhist, and he ended his speech with an old Irish poem titled “Take Time”, which I like very much.  Since the talk provided its audience a handout of the slides of the PPT that the speaker used in his talk, I am able to type out the poem here to share it with visitors of this blog.  Please see the poem below.)

Take time to WORK …
It is the price of success.

Take time to THINK …
It is the source of power.

Take time to LAUGH …
It is the music of the soul.

Take time to READ …
It is the foundation of wisdom.

Take time to DO CHARITY …
It is the key to heaven.

Take time to PRAY …
It is the greatest power on earth.

Take time to PLAY …
It is the secret of perpetual youth.

Take time to be FRIENDLY …
It is the road to happiness.

Take time to DREAM …
It is like hitching your wagon to a star.

Take time to LOVE and BELOVED …
It is a God-given privilege.

(Blogger’s note again: The words in capital letters appear on the slide as they do, and I think it’s the speaker’s emphasis. Also, at the bottom of the slide there are two more lines, which I think are not part of the poem but the speaker’s additions:)

Take time to PRACTISE your Dharma
You’ll never be disappointed.

(Blogger’s note again: The talk was the first of a series of talks under the umbrella name “Buddhist Ethics and Contemporary Society” organised by HKU’s Centre of Buddhist Studies and sponsored by Tung Lin Kung Yuen, a Buddhist organisation in Hong Kong that actively promotes Buddhism in the community. Readers interested in knowing the titles, dates and venues of this series of talks can visit: http://www.buddhism.hku.hk/images/ethics.jpg .
